How Self-Care Fuels Your Wellbeing

self care yoga and meditation erin lynn

Some days I wake up, spend time in meditation and breathwork, make my bed, get dressed for the day… and yet still feel like I’m in a bad mood.

I’m learning to be ok with this.

Usually when this happens and I’ve noticed my negative energy, the same old song and dance creeps into my thoughts i.e. “You’re not doing enough” or “What’s the point in doing this work” or “You should be more grateful.” There tends to be a lot of shame and blame placed on myself.

But I’m learning that my daily meditation practice helps fuel me on the harder days when I feel a little down/off/lost. If I didn’t have this daily practice in place I’m sure those bad mood days would become a lot worse.

Imagine an empty gas tank. When we make self-care a daily habit, we’re gradually filling up our gas tank and it becomes fuel to help our well-being. There will be some days where you just feel negative or down or just in a bad mood, and even if you don’t meditate or you skip your self-care habit, your gas tank is full from all your previous days of practice. You have already created the fuel within you through your daily self-care rituals.

Personally I’ve found that by committing to meditation and breathwork as an everyday practice, I can move through life knowing I’m taking care of my mind, body, and soul, and IT’S OK to be in a bad mood or to skip a day.

Do you encounter this in your life? Do you have a daily self-care practice? I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

Namaste,

Erin
